10/18/2019 – 7:30 PM – Weep & Willow
Weep & Willow (Miles Nielsen and Kelly Steward) released their self-titled debut EP in 2016, an intimate biographical examination of human connection. Rooted in traditional Americana, the duo layers rich harmonies with tenderly honest lyrics, resulting in songs that are heartfelt and memorable. With a connection that sings, this couple breathes life, hope, dreams, and love into their music.
11/22/2019 – 7:30 PM – Ladama
Ladama is a group of four women, all virtuosic musicians and educators, each from a different country and culture of the Americas. Harnessing the music from their respective countries of origin, the group uses traditional and non-traditional instruments from across the Americas, to produce Latin American music with a modern twist.
2/28/2020 – 7:30 PM – The Legacy Show
The Legacy Show is more than a concert. It is a musical, cultural, and historical journey guided by the work of prolific African-American creative artists. Performed by violinist Tami Lee Hughes and pianist Byron Burford-Phearse, the program features classical music infused with a variety of styles, including spirituals, blues, gospel, hip-hop, and jazz. Portraying cultural themes of the Antebellum Period, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Era, and Modern Times, the program includes poetry and visual media.
4/17/2020 – 7:30 PM – NIU Gamelan Ensemble
Gamelan is a percussion-dominated ensemble from Indonesia and is considered an integral part of Indonesian culture. Gamelan performances often accompany religious rituals and other important ceremonies. The NIU Gamelan Ensemble gives regular concerts and demonstrations throughout the area.
